My Novel
Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story
Please
note: the sequel Loving Grace: The Journey Continues is now also
available. Please scroll to the end of this section for information on ordering
both books.

A
spiritual romance novel ... rather unique in itself! And one with sexual
scenes? You probably didn't think of those two belonging together.
But you see, being spiritual doesn't necessarily mean being a prude. Grace
is a book about love in all of its forms; sex was appropriately included.
Whether you are a woman or a man, the protagonist ,Valentine, is very much like
you are... or once were; looking for love and happiness in all the wrong
places. Until, magically, Valentine meets a wise eastern teacher who invites
her to attend his Life School. Here he teaches Valentine, along with her other
"romantically impaired" classmates, the Eleven Discourses (Lessons) on life and
love, based on the magnificent ancient philosophy of Yoga, Americanized to
appeal to the western mind. The classes are interspersed within this romantic
novel, as the main characters struggle through a modern life which is as
harried as is life in this new century. By the book's end, Valentine and
her friends have learned better ways toward love and happiness, and, so
hopefully, have you, the reader.
So, come along. Step into Valentine's world, and accompany her as she lives her
life as a wife and mother of two children, one of them with autism... travel
with her in the fast-paced world of the New York City Glamour Industry...relax
with her in the quiet oasis of meditation centers and at a meditation ashram.
Experience the difficulties and joys of her relationships and growth as a
person...enjoy and suffer with her in her love relationships...appreciate the
pragmatics revealed about love....relationships..., parenthood ...the
differences between men and women...how to be a magnet to the opposite sex...how
to be a woman...atypical individuals ... and learn why science and spirituality,
often at odds, need not be. Finally, feel with Valentine the love that she
finally finds.

LI Eye

The following is a partial transcript of an interview by Long Island Eye.
Q. Can you sum up in one sentence what you primarily wanted to give to your
readers through your book?
A. A knowing that permanent happiness and permanent love are possible for
each of us. In...Grace...I give tools to achieve that. Tools that
were given to me.
Q. Have you achieved that?
A. There are days, even weeks and months where I feel that I have, but
there are times, still, when I get angry or sad or experience other so-called
negative emotions. That tells me there has to be more to go. However, for quite
some time now, for me, those aforementioned type emotions end almost
immediately. For instance, I could not stay angry at anyone if I tried. But at
the same time, I won't let myself be walked upon twice by the same person; I
recognize those two traits as being two of the many wonderful by-products of
self-development. If this isn't yet permanent happiness, it surely will do
until the real thing comes along! I will never rest on my laurels, though. In
the area of self-improvement, I always want more, and continue to work on
myself.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT SAVING GRACE: A SPIRITUAL LOVE STORY
"The
story and characters crackle in your mind like lingering currents of
electricity. The fortunate reader of this book laughs, loves and learns about
life and spirituality through this most whimsical, delightful and profound
vehicle."
- Harvey Diamond, author of The New York
Times
#1 bestseller Fit For Life"
"Phyllis-Terri Gold truly deserves all the kudos and kind comments she'll
receive in the coming months. Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story
represents the author's creative mind, wisdom - and persistence. I look forward
to seeing the book on the best seller lists."
- Rick Wolff, Executive Editor,
Warner Books. New York, NY
"Book Revue was proud to host Phyllis-Terri Gold's book signing. It was her
effort that made the event the success that it was. She was professional,
creative and enthusiastic - all the qualities a publicist looks for in an
author. Dr. Gold is one of the easiest authors I've ever had the pleasure of
working with - and the most prepared. There was a large crowd gathered to hear
her speak, and she didn't disappoint them. People came to see her because
Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story speaks to them on several levels. Its
a touching love story, personal journey and lesson book all in one. We sold
every one of her books that evening (over 65) and had to order more. We continue
to sell her book and have had to reorder several times. That doesn't happen
often with a local author. Her smile is infectious and her message is moving. I
am looking forward to the opportunity to work with her again."
- Tamanthajane Nagle, Publicist,
Book Revue Huntington, NY
"A tender beautiful journey of the heart. It's refreshing to read a book which
celebrates love and the good in each of us. This book will put you in touch with
the inner child, and help you love that child as well."
- Carol Rose Shrembek, author of Cheri's
Crossing and
Time Travel.
"Dr. Phyllis-Terri Gold captures the true essence of love, harmony,
compassion and spirituality in this insightful and motivating book. Her
teachings provide us with the strength and courage to not only heal from within,
but to live to our fullest potential. Truly inspiring and thought-provoking!"
- Chris Crawford, Self-help author, Happiness is
Everything.
"Every
time I was about to put the book down, I turned the page and had to read more.
At first I could not tell if ( one of the characters) was straight or gay. As I
read on, I laughed at the confusion, because it captured the true confusions
that I have all the time about men. There are books that are like rows of houses
that all look the same. Grace is the restored Victorian corner house that
everyone slows down to get a better look at. A spell binding page-turner by a
talented writer."
- Clarke Allan, author of "The First Man to be
First Lady"
Seattle, Washington.
"I very
much appreciate the writing and the views reflected in this story, especially of
those who have autism. It is not often that autism is expressed in such a true
light. That these different individuals could be viewed as Great Beings rather
than as deficient ones. It is my hope that it will help others to open their
minds to the many possibilities that are within us all. As Willie asks in the
cathedral, 'when does the movie start?' "
- Lisa Fertel, Executive Director,
East End Disabilities Associates, Inc.
Riverhead, NY
"This was a very brave book. I know it was written as fiction. Yet, having
attended a number of Dr. Gold's classes, I found so much of her presence and
energy in every page, that it was like we were sitting together and talking for
a long time. The courage and openness she's displayed is something I think we
all hunger for."
Virginia Bannon
Artist
North Babylon, New York
"I was riveted! I read all the time and not all books stay with me, but this
one will. I like to read books where they tell you something and then show it
with a story, like Grace. Beautiful book!"
- Jane Cunningham, Speech Language
Pathologist,
Valley Stream, NY
"If you took from Robert Pirsigs' book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle
Maintenance, added to it the wise mystical counselor and guide in Dan
Millman's Way of the Peaceful Warrior, and then transposed the lead
character of Lynn V. Andrews Medicine Woman to a setting between Long
Island and New York City, you would have something approximating Saving
Grace: A Spiritual Love Story. It is by turns painful, insightful, humorous
and laugh-out-loud funny. That the main character is married with children --
one of them with autism -- makes her more intriguing. If you only read novels,
you'll love Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story. If you only read
inspirational and spiritual literature, it's for you. If you only read classics,
get it now!"
- Robert Faulkner, CDT, MDT
Dental Technician, Farmingville, NY
"One of my patients attended a book signing with the author and bought me the
book as a gift. I thought, 'Darn, now I'm going to have read it.' I wasn't too
happy about that. A book with a title such as this is not one that I would
ordinarily read. But I did read it. I really liked it. I found it very
trendsetting, and enjoyable."
- Alan Meisel, M.D, Board Certified in
Psychiatry
and qualified in Geriatric Medecine.
Setauket, NY
"One of the most profound books that I have ever read. I could not put it
down. The parallels to my own life were striking and the lessons learned
couldn't have come at a better time. Upon completion, my entire outlook on love
and relationships was changed. I feel empowered to live my life with more love
and compassion."
- Mr. Chris Zourides, Global Recruiter, Brooklyn, NY
"Just saying Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story is great doesn't do it
justice. It would take several weeks of talking for that! I've read books like
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, and Grace is right up there
with them. It makes your realize that you can be more peaceful in your life and
that things happen for a reason. For instance, two weeks ago I was driving to
New York City to visit a friend and lamenting that I'd have to find a parking
space or pay $20 in a garage. Suddenly I saw a woman standing beside her parked
car with her door open. She signaled to me that she was leaving, as though she
had been waiting for me! More of these things are happening now. Its like
things don't have to be so difficult."
- Cynthia Cohen, MS CCC-SLP, Language-
Speech
Pathologist, Queens, NY
"It's given my eighteen year old daughter direction. Its very inspirational.
I'm sensitive to energy levels and connected immediately to the powerful healing
energy in Grace. What a brave character Valentine is! The sensuality in
the book was needed - its the yin and yang, the energy of life, the balance
between the earthly and the celestial."
- Judith Budd-Walsh, Grade School teacher,
Reiki Instructor, Practitioner - Tai Chi
Port Jefferson, NY
"I can truly say it was the best book that I have ever read. The sexual scenes
were tastefully done. It was altogether very powerful."
- Eilen Vein, M.A,
Primary school teacher, Plainview, NY
'To read Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story is to experience Grace.
Valentine is feisty but focused, quick but precise, and attracting everything
that she doesn't want in her life, including all the wrong men! She turns this
around by applying spiritual teachings to her difficulties. The book is written
in such a way that as a transformation takes place in each character, the reader
experiences a transformation as well. Grace walks us through our current
experiences. I highly recommend this book to anyone who believes that life can
be more than it currently is."
- Theresa Vlahos, R. N, M. S, Nurse
Practitioner and
Clinical Assistant, Professor, SUNY Stony
Brook,
Stony Brook, NY
"I bought ten copies after I finished this book to distribute to my most
favorite people. Grace was a very inspirational book to me. I have read
many spiritual books, but this story connected in a different way. Through
Valentine's life lessons, I was able to see a journey from pain to peace and
could easily assimilate the lessons into my own life."
- Joanne Steenberg, Teacher-mother, Eaton's
Neck, NY
"I am going to give Grace to lots of friends because it is such a
wonderful book -- good for everybody, whether they've been on a spiritual
journey a long time, like myself, for a relatively short time, or not at all.
It is such an exciting story that relates to everyone's life. You learn as you
go on. I loved the way the students in the Life School asked questions,
enabling the reader to further learn the lessons.
- Pawnee Sills, Actor - Educator,
New York, NY
"Exciting and mind-boggling. Being with the same spiritual master as the author,
the lessons were not new to me. But the wonderful thing is, I've been applying
them to my daily life, and they've been working so well. I actually cried
on the subway, thinking of Willie and his struggles to live in our "normal"
world. I could go on and on about this wonderful book! Thanks to Phyllis-Terri
Gold for giving so much of herself, for so vividly and accurately capturing the
flavor and essence of our ashram, and for putting her heart out there for all of
us who are fortunate enough to reap the rewards of her story."
- Suzan Hochstadt, Administrative Assistant,
United
Federation of Teachers (NYC Teacher's
Union),
Kew Gardens, NY
"It is so good! I stayed up late and got up early to finish reading this book so
I could give it to my daughter. Its a book you can study, but not like a
textbook-just so much information. I want to meet Max, Cheng, all the
characters!"
- Kathy Kistner,
Staples Copy Center, East Northport, NY
"TERRIFIC! I loved the book! Phyllis-Terri Gold delivers on all
levels-intelligence, humor, depth. Her writing style captures you and won't let
go. Valentine's character stays with you long after you finish the book. I
hope her lessons will stay with me and my family forever."
- Karen Easton, Regional Manager, Infusion
Therapy,
Bridgehampton, NY
"I will read and re-read your book forever and have bought copies for all my
daughters. It is unique and very resourceful. It is also a comfort."
- Lorraine Schmitz, Administrative Assistant to
General Manager, Mutual of Omaha Ronkonkoma,
NY
"Your novel Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story meant so much to me. I enjoyed
watching Valentine transform. It was easy for me to experience her struggle,
search and awakening through her eyes. You artfully intertwined teachings with a
compelling story. Thank you!"
- Robin Weisberg, M.A, School psychologist,
Commack, NY
"Mesmerizing. I could not put it down!"
- Judy Schneider, A Long Island reader.
